In Ontario, contractors are not required to be licensed. Please see above slide show. 

As a result, anyone can label themselves a contractor. Many people are under the impression that if anything goes wrong with the construction, they can easily go after the contractor, but most don't because of the cost and time involved. 

Clients often make the mistake of choosing the lowest quote when shopping for a contractor rather than contacting referrals provided by a legitimate contractor. 

Many YouTube contractors know this and will always low-ball to get the job. They also provide low quality materials that will fail over time, but that will increase their bottom line. 

As a result, we often receive calls from these clients asking us to come in and correct the video contractor's job. 

Always ask a contractor for referrals. They should be able to provide at least 3. Ask to see pictures or videos of their projects. If a contractor can't provide these, then stay away, no matter how low the quote is. If a good contractor has satisfied clients, then most of them will be more than happy to provide a referral. We've had past clients invite potential clients to their homes. 

Anything is possible, you're only bound by dollars. Keeping you within budget is important to us, so we'll work with you to get you what you want while still keeping you within your range.

The answer to this question varies depending on the type of renovation. For instance, if you only have one bathroom in the house, and you want to renovate it, then yes, staying elsewhere is advisable. 

In most cases, clients can continue to stay in their homes while renovations are underway. If a client is undergoing a kitchen renovation, we recommend setting up a makeshift kitchen somewhere else in the house. Before the renovation begins, prepare foods that can be frozen and quickly re-heated. 

We encourage our clients to shop for the finishing materials themselves, that way they know exactly what they're getting. They also get to collect the points on their cards. By finishing materials we mean faucets, lighting, etc. We always provide all of the construction materials. 

Having said that, we would be more than happy to provide all materials if so requested.

Having been in business for more than 30 years now, we can accurately predict how long a job will take, barring any unforeseen circumstances, and always include a timeline in our quotes. 

Confields carries a 5 million dollar liability policy. You can rest assured that any damages would be covered, though we've never had to use it yet.

Always ask a contractor to provide you with a legitimate insurance policy, otherwise you'll be liable for the expenses incurred as a result of shoddy workmanship.
